Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese – our pairing with Blood: A Scientific Romance

Maybe you can get Blood from a Stone.

This beautiful novel follows the lives of twins Marion and Shiva.  Brothers who, orphaned by the death of their mother and the disappearance of their surgeon father, come of age as their beloved country of Ethiopia is on the brink of revolution and civil war.  As the novel unfolds the brothers follow in their father’s footsteps – delving into the mysteries and miracles of medicine, love, betrayal, and the inexplicable connection between twins.  This book is epic, magical, and absorbing – take the journey around the world and to the deepest parts of the human heart.

One being at birth, rudely separated, we are one again.

Welcome to Sage Theatre's Book Nook!

Welcome to Sage Theatre’s Book Nook – it’s like a bookclub but NO Pressure!

We’ve teamed up once again with the fine folks at Owl’s Nest Books – and we’ve chosen three books for your reading pleasure.  These books uncover, illuminate, and celebrate some of the themes of Sage Theatre’s 2010-2011 mainstage productions.  So Get Closer and cozy up in Sage Theatre’s Book Nook – connecting what’s on the stage with what’s on the page.

I’m really excited about the three books we have on offer this year.  I hope you are as captivated, touched, and entertained by these novels as I am.  In this year’s Book Nook, we meet a pair of twins who’s lives become so intertwined that we see their blood connection realized in bold new ways; we will dance with a Brazilian woman who explores the sacred nature of love and sex; and finally, in the not so distant future, we meet a precocious girl on a mission to claim what is hers.
